India begins first round of COVID-19 vaccine booster shot

India begins first round of COVID-19 vaccine booster shot

The second shot of the COVID-19 vaccination drive started today for the beneficiaries who got the first shot on January 16, as the nationwide inoculation drive began. The second dose needs to be taken 28 days after the first.

The second shot of vaccine can be taken between 4-6 weeks after the first dose, according to doctors. The second dose, known as the booster shot, boosts immunity, making both shots essential.

According to experts, the first dose trains the body to recognize the killer virus and scales up the immune system. A senior doctor at BLK Super Speciality Hospital received his second vaccine shot today.

India has approved two vaccines, Oxford University and AstraZeneca’s Covishield, made by Serum Institute of India, and Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin.
