The High Commission of India in London has denounced spurious declarations by British parliamentarians in a “distinctly one-sided discussion.” The parliamentarians discussed press freedom and peaceful protests in India in light of the ongoing farmers’ protests.
The Indian mission called attention to the fact that British media has witnessed the protests which is why the “question of lack of freedom of the media in India does not arise”.
“We deeply regret that rather than a balanced debate, false assertions – without substantiation or facts – were made, casting aspersions on the largest functioning democracy in the world and its institutions,” a statement issued by the Indian high commission said.
The mission denied commenting as it was an internal discussion amongst a few honourable parliamentarians.
