India gives green signal to Cannabis, votes in favour of the drug resolution

India has voted in favour of the National Drugs resolution in the UN to remove Cannabis from the category of most dangerous drugs. The Schedule IV of 1961 Single Convention on Narcotics Drugs include drugs like cocaine, heroin, coca. There was a close competition in votes 27-25 among 53 member states, with US, EU members voting in favour while China, Japan, Iran voted against. India did not specify voting in favour but as per sources, Cannabis would be used for medicinal purposes and recreational use will continue to be banned.
