India to buy MiG-29 and Sukhois from Russia

The Cabinet Committee on Security has approved the procurement of 21 MiG-29 and 12 Sukhoi-30MKI fighters from Russia and India will also be procuring upgrades of the existing fleets. The decision comes after the Cabinet had already approved the decision of procuring 83 Tejas fighter jets.

India is buying these MiG-29 at relatively cheaper price as these 29 jets are lying in Russia with bare air-frames since 1980s and will add to the already existing tally of 59 such jets with IAF.

The 12 Sukhoi-30MKIs will add to the already existing tally of 272 to jets which were bought for $15 billion.
