India to lock horns with Sri Lanka in a three ODI and five T20I series, says BCCI president Sourav Ganguly

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly announced that the Indian team will be playing against Sri Lanka. The series will include three ODI matches and five T20Is matches. Both the teams were supposed to participate in the limited series back in June which unfortunately got cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, the series is further planned to take place in July as per the reports from the ICC’s Future Tour’s Programme (FTP). India will leave for India with 20 men squad on June 2 for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand, while Sri Lanka too has cricket lined up in England with three ODI and three T20Is scheduled from June 23 to July 4.

Ganguly was asked if the IPL remainders will be scheduled after India’s return from England tour to which he replied a big ‘No’.

“India is supposed to go to Sri Lanka for three ODIs and five T20Is. There are lots of organisational hazards like 14-day quarantine. It [the IPL] can’t happen in India [either]. This quarantine is tough to handle. Too early to say how we can find a slot to complete the IPL.” Ganguly said to Sportstar in an interview.

The World Test Championship followed by the England Test series will conclude on September 14. The men in blue will then be geared up for the big event T20I World Cup sometime in mid-October. However, Sri Lanka and a group of England counties have offered BCCI and IPL board to host the remainders of the Vivo IPL 2021 along with UAE as an alternative, which was last years IPL 2020 host as well.
