Indian government plans to raise smoking age limit

The government of India has decided to raise the age for allowing sale of cigarette’s and tobacco products to 21 years from 18 years. The cigarette manufacturing industry will face tough challenges ahead. The provision is part of new bill which is being introduced by Union Health Ministry under the Cigarettes & other Tobacco Products Act, 2003.

Any person not adhering by the rules can face fine of Rs.1 lakh for first offence; for second offence they will be fined Rs. 5 lakh or imprisonment up to 5 years.
