Indian Medical Association to hold protest on June 18 against violence on doctors

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Saturday has declared of holding protest against the manhandling of the doctors in the nation and violent cases coming into the light since past weeks. The nation records a backdrop of several severe incidences of doctors being treated badly by the patient’s relatives.

IMA President Dr. J.A. Jayalal informed that on Friday, June 18, IMA will be organizing the protest against the assault on the nation’s Medical professionals. Importantly, the slogan of the protest is namedSave the Savior’. It is also mentioned that the Doctors will join the protest wearing black shirt, masks or badges. Notably, the hospitals will run as per daily schedule, as said by Dr. Jayalal.

Doctors serving in several COVID-19 wards have been brutally assaulted and beaten in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar and Assam. It is the priority of the government to ensure the maximum safety and security of the nation’s frontline worker/warrior standing out there fighting the pandemic.

The IMA president said, “We demand that government bring a central protection law with provisions under CrPC and IPC and also ensure that all government and private hospital have a mandatory security structure.”

Earlier in this week, the IMA wrote to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking for his intervention to ensure that the medical professionals work fearlessly. It also asked for strict action against the assaulters.

The association further said, “Any person(s) who spreads misinformation against the vaccination drive, which is meant to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, must be booked and punished in accordance with law under the relevant provisions of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897, the Indian Penal Code and the Disaster Management Act, 2005.”
