Indian Railways for the first time run electric train in Assam

The Indian Railways for the first time has completed trial of an electric train in Assam, a report by Assam Sentinel said.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal in reference to this new development wrote on Twitter, “Creating an Atmanirbhar Assam: For the first time in history, electric locomotive ran on the soil of Assam with successful trial run from Bongaigaon to Sarupeta stations.” The running of electric trains might start by March 2021. These will run between New Bongaigaon and Rangiya, the NF Railway PRO Nripen Bhattacharya told Sentinel. He also said, “If everything goes as planned, running of electric trains will be started in March this year between New Bongaigaon and Rangiya in Assam. Works for the project for the given stretch is over.”

He told Sentinel that the trains will be released in phases and the next two places will be between Rangiya and Guwahati and between Lumding and Dibrugarh.
