India’s Priya Malik won the gold medal in the 73 kg weight category at the World Cadet Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

India’s Priya Malik won the gold medal in the 73 kg weight category at the World Cadet Wrestling Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Indian girls won a total of 5 medals including 3 gold in this event. After Priya’s victory, there was a misconception among some fans of India that she had achieved success in the Olympics.

Priya defeated the Belarus wrestler Kseniya by 5-0 in the final. Apart from Priya, two more Indian wrestlers won gold and two wrestlers won bronze medals. Tannu won a gold medal in 43 kg and Komal in 46 kg. On the other hand, Varsha won the bronze medal in 65 kg weight. In this championship, India finished second overall in the girls’ category. The American team came first and the Russian team came third.

Mirabai Chanu won the country’s first medal in weightlifting at the Tokyo Olympic Games on Saturday. She has won a medal in weightlifting at the Olympics after 21 years. Before her, Karnam Malleswari won the bronze medal in weightlifting for the country in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

As earlier mentioned Priya’s victory in the World Cadet Wrestling Championships there was a misconception among some fans of India that she had achieved success in the Olympics. But, the wrestling event at the Tokyo Olympics is to begin on August 1. This time 7 wrestlers from India are participating. Vinesh Phogat in women and Bajrang Punia in men are expected to win a medal. Apart from Vinesh, Seema Bisla, Sonam Malik and Anshu Malik are also participating in the Olympics.
