India’s Silver Medallist Mirabai Chanu was given guard of honour at Delhi airport

Mirabai Chanu, who won India’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympics, has returned to India from Tokyo.

Mirabai Chanu, who won India’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympics, has returned to India from Tokyo. Meera’s silver medal has been India’s only medal so far in this year’s Olympics. She is also the first Indian athlete to win a medal on the first day of the Olympics. Mirabai was given a warm welcome at the Delhi airport.

The airport staff raised slogans of Bharat Mata Ki Jai. She was also given a guard of honour. During this, she underwent for RT-PCR test. Her coach Vijay Sharma has also returned with Meera.

Earlier, Meera has also shared a picture on social media while returning from Tokyo airport. She captioned; “Heading back to home. Thank you #Tokyo2020 for memorable moments of my life,” This tweet of Chanu got around lakhs of likes and more than 5 thousand retweets within 5 hours.

Weightlifter Chanu won the silver medal in the women’s 49 kg weight category on Saturday by lifting a total of 202 kg. Meera is the second athlete from India to win a medal in weightlifting. Earlier, Karnam Malleswari had won the bronze medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympics.

After Weightlifter Chanu won the silver medal the Manipur government announced One crore rupees reward for the athlete.
