The fixing of June 16 for the conduction of INI CET 2021 was termed as “arbitrary” by the Supreme Court on Friday and the postgraduate medical entrance test was directed to be held after one month as instructed by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
A plea seeking admission in PG medical filed by doctors was disposed of by a vacation bench of Justices Indira Banerjee and M R Shah. The doctors also challenged the notification of fixing June 16 as the date of INI CET 2021. The bench said that the exam needs to be postponed due to the difficulty faced by the candidates because of the examination and several places far away due to COVID-19 duty from the examination centre.
The national level examination which is being held by AIIMS has provided the availability of 815 seats for which around 80,000 candidates are vying. JIPMER, NIMHANS, AIIMS, Puducherry, Bengaluru and Chandigarh are the 8 institutions among which the 815 seats are segregated. The initial date for scheduling the INI CET 2021 was 8th May but due to the COVID pandemic, it was rescheduled to 16th June.
An assurance was given by Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in the petition while postponing the National Eligibility cum Entrance Exam for postgraduate (NEET PG 2021) that students shall be given a month to prepare for the examination. The bench said that the doctors are going to appear for the exam but they do not have sufficient time for preparation due to COVID so why not postpone the exam by a month.
