Inter Milan consider Donny van de Beek and Kovacic as Eriksen’s replacements

Inter Milan is considering Donny van de Beek and Kovacic as possible Eriksen replacements.

Inter Milan is reportedly targeting Donny van de Beek and Mateo Kovacic as possible replacements to Christian Eriksen. Calhanoglu is also being considered as a target.

Denmark’s Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during Euro 2020 group stage match against Finland. The match was halted as Eriksen was treated on the pitch and thereby taken to a nearby hospital in Copenhagen. The Danish Football Association then revealed that Eriksen has suffered a cardiac arrest but was stable. He has since been advised to wear an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator or ICD, a small battery-powered device to regulate his heartbeat commonly known as a pacemaker.

Eriksen’s career seems to be in major doubt and there aren’t any clear indications from the concerned authorities as to his ability to continue playing professional football at the highest level. Inter Milan, signed Eriksen in January 2020 on a 4-year deal but they will need to start looking at new replacements for Eriksen as shadows have been cast on his career.

Inter Milan has reportedly targeted Chelsea’s Mateo Kovacic who is currently out of favour at the London club. He is also being offered to Inter as part of a swap deal which will see Inter’s right wing-back Achraf Hakimi go the other way. Another rumoured target is Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek who has had little playing time despite joining the club in August 2020. Donny van de Beek might consider leaving United in search for more playing time and Inter presents the right opportunity to the 24-year old. AC Milan’s Hakan Calhanoglu is out of contract after a failed contract renewal with AC Milan and could also join their fierce city rivals on a free transfer.
