Inter Milan win the Scudetto after 11 years and end Juventus’s reign

Inter Milan sealed their first Serie A title in 11 years after Atalanta drew 1-1 against Sassuolo.

Inter Milan win the Serie A title with four games to spare after Atalanta’s 1-1 draw at Sassuolo on Sunday gave them an unassailable 13-point lead; Antonio Conte ends the club’s 10-year trophy drought and Juventus’ nine-year Scudetto winning cycle, which he began.

Inter have only been defeated twice this season, in the Milan derby in October and at Sampdoria in January, with the latter being followed by an ongoing 18-game unbeaten streak in which they have collected 14 wins, 11 of which have come in a row. Juventus were expected to compete for the title once more, but they had a disastrous season under Andrea Pirlo, with their place in next season’s Champions League still in doubt.

Conte is still the architect, but the impact of Romelu Lukaku, Hakimi, and Nicolo Barella – Italy’s best striker, winger, and midfielder – cannot be underestimated. Eriksen, too, was able to secure a regular starting spot after much frustration. At Inter, Romelu Lukaku has been a revelation. With 21 goals this season, he is the team’s leading scorer and a key figure in the end of Juventus’ nine-year dominance in Italy.
