International bodybuilder Jagdish succumbs due to COVID-19 at the age of 34

Jagdish Lad, who is originally from Kundal village in Sangli district, lived in Navi Mumbai before relocating to Ahmedabad two years ago. He was the manager of a nearby gym. Lad, 34, an international bodybuilder and former Mr India, died on Friday in a Baroda hospital from COVID-19.

He won several medals for Maharashtra at the National Championships and silver at the 2014 Mr World competition in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

“Jagdish was one of the top bodybuilders in India. Whichever competition he participated in, he won medals whether it was Maharashtra Shri, Mr India or World Championships. It happened so suddenly and I am shocked to hear that he is no more,” said Chetan Pathare, World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Federation’s secretary.

“After Jagdish’s sad demise, we immediately called off our next competition—Mr India. We don’t want any more casualties. My message to all bodybuilders is to stay home, stay safe and keep yourself healthy,” Pathare added.
