International Women’s Day: Women MP’s demand 33% reservation in Parliament

On account of International Women’s day, many female members of the Parliament spoke in the Rajya Sabha. The MP’s highlighted the issue that the number of women in leadership roles is very less as they demanded a 33% reservation for women in Parliament.

National Congress Party’s Fauzia Khan said “We can make a beginning by bringing the legislation on 33% reservation of women in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.”

Shiv Sena’s Priyanka Chaturvedi proposed increasing the reservation to 50%. NCP’s Chhaya Verma put light on the issue of increasing rate of crime against women.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s Sonal Mansingh demanded that if we celebrate women’s day, we should also celebrate International Men’s Day.

The Women Reservation Bill is pending in the Lok Sabha since it was proposed in 2010
