IPL 2021: Several media sources and reports hinted about K Gowtham already joining the Chennai Super Kings squad and further reported that he was seen practicing carrom ball in the nets. He was also seen with the Indian team as a net bowler for the just concluded series against England.
During the IPL auction 2021, Chennai Super Kings acquired the service of the Karnataka based bowling- allrounder for a whooping 9.25 crore making him the costliest uncapped player in the history of IPL, previously which was held by Krunal Pandya. Mumbai Indians bought him for Rs. 8.80 crore in the year 2018.
Gowtham, who was released by Punjab Kings (Formerly known as Kings XI Punjab) before the auction, had entered the auction with a base price of 20 lakh. Chennai won the bidding war against Kolkata Knight Riders and SunRisers Hyderabad at the auction.
While Gowtham provides the much-needed balance for the team in the middle-order, he didn’t witness a great IPL for the previous 2 seasons. Gowtham could only get 2 wickets in the last 9 matches and combinedly scored 60 runs of 46 balls with the bat.
Moving further, Chennai is set for their first match of the season against Delhi Capitals in Mumbai on April 10.
