Dhoni to Play Again –
Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, scheduled for late November, the BCCI has introduced a significant rule change impacting player retentions. Traditionally, uncapped players were defined as those who had not represented their national team. Now, the new rule considers any Indian player who hasn’t played internationally or held a BCCI central contract in the past five years as uncapped.
This adjustment allows Chennai Super Kings to retain their legendary former captain MS Dhoni as an uncapped player for only ₹4 crore, maximizing their budget for other key retentions. Dhoni, alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Matheesha Pathirana, and Shivam Dube, will form the core of CSK’s squad for IPL 2025.
