Australia skipper Pat Cummins, unsurprisingly, set fire to the auction table. The fast-bowling all-rounder was signed by SRH for 20.5 crore, making him the second most expensive player in IPL history. CSK went for all-rounder in the second set, choosing Shardul Thakur (4 crore) and Rachin Ravindra (1.8 crore). After a heated bidding battle between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, West Indies T20 skipper Rovman Powell was sold to RR for a hefty 7.40 crore. Powell was the first player to be auctioned in the IPL 2024 auction, with a starting price of 1 crore. Rilee Rossouw did not find a taker, but DC paid $4 million for Harry Brook.
Another bidding battle started between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad for Australia’s Travis Head. Lastly, the World Cup final hero, whose starting price was Rs. 2 crore, was sold to SRH for Rs. 6.8 crore. Steve Smith, Karun Nair and Manish Pandey had no takers.
