Katy Perry is set to take her star power to new heights—literally—as she joins the first-ever all-women space mission aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard rocket.
The pop superstar will be part of a historic crew that includes legendary CBS host Gayle King, ex-NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and Jeff Bezos’s partner, Lauren Sanchez. This will mark the first all-female spaceflight since Valentina Tereshkova’s solo mission in 1963.
The mission, designated NS-31, is set to take place this spring. The 11-minute suborbital flight will be fully autonomous, with no pilots onboard, and will carry passengers past the Kármán line—the recognized boundary of space. It will also be Blue Origin’s 11th crewed launch, bringing its total number of flown passengers to 52.
“If you had told me I’d be part of the first all-female crew in space, I would have believed you. Nothing was beyond my imagination as a child,” Perry shared, as quoted by USA Today.
Lauren Sanchez, who has been planning the mission since 2023, emphasized its significance, stating that the goal is to challenge perspectives of Earth and empower future generations.
While no official launch date has been revealed yet, fans are already excited about the idea of Perry taking “fly high” to a whole new level. 🚀
