Is The Boys Season 4 releasing this year? Here’s what we know!

Showrunner Eric Kripke, who previously developed the well-known horror series Supernatural, quotes author Garth Ennis as saying that the Amazon Prime TV series is “what would happen if you coupled the worst of politics with the worst of celebrity.” The show is based on Ennis’ comic book of the same name.

Indeed, over the course of The Boys’ last three seasons, we have seen the exploration of topics like Neo-Nazism, #MeToo, Black Lives Matter, and the alt-right through the eyes of The Seven, a dishonest team of self-centered “Supes” led by the increasingly deranged Homelander (Anthony Starr) and soulless PR Machine known as Vought International.

Homelander’s hold on The Seven, nevertheless, begins to slip as does his hold on reason. The Boys, a group of anti-Supe vigilantes led by Billy Butcher (Karl Urban), are left to put an end to his reign of terror, and the process involves a lot of blood, guts, and genitalia.

The Boys Season 4 Plot

Two key Big Bads for the upcoming season are established at the conclusion of The Boys season 3. The first is Homelander, who took over after betrayal by Vought CEO and adoptive father Stan Edgar and secret head-popping Supe Victoria Neuman, who blew up the skulls of half of Congress.

There is no telling what kind of havoc she may unleash now that she is the Vice President of the United States since she has already threatened Annie and is aware that Hughie is aware of her abilities.

Thankfully, it appears as though The Boys have her in their sights as Butcher stated as much in the final minutes of the episode. MM, Butcher, Hughie, Frenchie, and Kimiko appear to be back together towards the end of season 3, after being split up for the majority of the season. Annie has also joined them as their newest member after permanently giving up her position as Starlight and co-captain of The Seven.

Homelander is undoubtedly the fourth season’s other Big Bad setup. He’s more deranged than ever, and his son Ryan is on his side as he gains greater notoriety within the US alt-right (clear parodies of Trump-supporting Republicans).

The Boys season 4 cast

Every member of Payback, Soldier Boy’s former crew, met their demise in season 3, along with Stormfront’s (Aya Cash) suicide, Blue Hawk’s (Nick Wechsler) murder at the hands of A-Train, and Supersonic’s and Noir’s (Gaston Villanueva) deaths at the hands of Homelander (Nathan Mitchell). Ignore the at Herogasm slaughter.

Although Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) made it through the season, he was returned to the ice because he was thought to be too dangerous to let out; however, it is unclear if he will remain that way. The same is true of Maeve (Dominique McElligott). She may have left the program because she was in hiding, but would she continue to do so? Other than that, it’s expected that all the key players will come back.

The Boys season 4 cast:

  • Antony Starr as Homelander
  • Jack Quaid as Hughie Cambell
  • Karl Urban as Billy Butcher
  • Erin Moriarty as Annie/Starlight

The Boys Season 4 Release date

We don’t know when The Boys season 4 will be released as of December 2023. The Boys was officially renewed by Amazon for season 4 in June 2022 one week after the season 3 finale. Karl Urban, who played Butcher, then uploaded a photo with co-star Jack Quaid in August, indicating that season 4 production had started.

Although we are unsure of The Boys season 4’s precise release date, we can make a guess based on how long season 4 took. As far as we are aware, Canada hosted the filming of The Boys season 3 between February and August of 2021, for a total of six months. After then, there seems to be a ten-month post-production phase from August 2021 to the start of the season in early June 2022.
