Plot
After inheriting his family’s wealth, Henry Sugar quickly learns about his fatal gambling addiction. One day, he fabricates Imdad Khan—a man who says he can see things without opening his eyes—based on some medical findings. Henry quickly picks up this technique, lighting a candle while closing his eyes and visualising the face of his closest loved one. Henry has been able to read the face value of card owners for the past three years. Henry later exploits his skill at a casino to win £30,000 playing blackjack. But, dissatisfied with his earnings, he tosses the cash from his balcony into London’s streets. Henry makes the decision to travel the world and make money from gaming. Henry passes away from a pulmonary embolism twenty years later. He was aware that the clot would kill him because he could see it through his skin.
Inspired by British Novel
The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Six More, written by British author Roald Dahl in 1977, serves as the basis for the movie. The novel’s seven stories were written by the author at different points in her life. There are two autobiographies among the tales. One recounts Dahl’s journey to become a writer, while another narrates his time as a fighter pilot during World War II.

Along with Dev Patel as Dr. Chatterjee, Ralph Fiennes as Imdad Khan, Rupert Friend as Claud, Dev Patel as Dr. Marshall, and Jarvis Cocker as a Canasta player are among the ensemble cast members playing important roles in the film. Wes Anderson, the director of the first short film, is back to direct the short anthology, The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More.
