Janhvi Kapoor has opened up about the emotional challenges of growing up in the spotlight, especially after the tragic loss of her mother, legendary actress Sridevi.
In a recent interview, Janhvi reflected on how constant paparazzi attention shaped her childhood. She shared that while today’s celebrities are more protective of their children, it was very casual during her growing years. The Dhadak actress revealed that being under constant glare often made people dismiss her individuality, labeling her as just privileged.
Talking about the aftermath of Sridevi’s passing in 2018, Janhvi recalled the harsh media attention she faced. “I would be hounded by the media, and if I smiled to promote my film, I was criticised for seeming too okay. If I was quiet, I was called too cold. Imagine losing your mother, and it becomes entertainment for half the nation,” she said. She added that the experience left her cynical about human nature.
Janhvi further revealed how both she and her sister Khushi chose to remain strong in public, which only made people assume they were unaffected. “We never let them see the cracks, and that took empathy and sympathy out of the question,” she explained.
Sridevi passed away on February 24, 2018, in Dubai due to accidental drowning, just months before Janhvi’s debut film Dhadak. The loss left a permanent void for her family and fans alike. On the work front, Janhvi will next be seen in Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari alongside Varun Dhawan, releasing on October 2.
