Last minute preparations are being done at Tirupati’s temples in preparation for today, August 26, which is Sri Krishna Janmashtami. Children dressed as mythological figures participated in a fancy dress event held on Sunday at the Hare Krishna Temple (Radha Shyam Sundar Mandir) in Kapila Theertham Circle. The young children revealed the several epic events in which the characters like Krishna, Radha, Yashoda, Hanuman, Raavan, etc were part.
Unlike the typical white marble stones that represent Krishna, the statue in this temple is all black, hence its name, “Shyam Sundar.” Beginning on Monday, there will be celebrations for two days. “Jhulan” will take place at 8 a.m. and “Abhishekam” at 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. The main events are expected to be the “Abhishekam” at midnight and the “Maha Mangala Arati” from 10.30 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Tuesday. The deity will be presented “Chappan Bhog,” a unique collection of 56 treats that have been patiently prepared by the devotees, and “Raja Bhog Arati” will take place at noon.
Similar to this, there will be three days of festivities at ISKCON’s Radha Govinda Mandir on Hare Krishna Road in Alipiri. In anticipation of the large crowd, the police department has implemented a traffic diversion. The choice was made because of the temple’s close proximity to the TTD workers’ Vinayaka Nagar quarters and the APSRTC’s Balaji link bus terminal, which is where buses headed to Tirumala stop.Concurrently, the TTD has declared a special Puja for Tuesday at the Sri Krishna shrine located within the Sri Padmavati Ammavari temple complex in Tiruchanur. The goddess will be carried in an evening procession on a “Pedda Sesha Vahanam” following a special “Abhishekam.” Not only in one state, but in every state and even in many homes throughout India, this auspicious day is celebrated with sincere belief and devotion.
