An incident occurred during Real Madrid’s routine victory against Getafe, when fans claimed to have lip-read a shocking slur directed at Mason Greenwood by Jude Bellingham. Greenwood joined Getafe on loan from Manchester United in questionable circumstances last year. In 2022, he was arrested on claims of sexual assault and suspended by the club.
A long criminal investigation into an allegedly attempted rape ended by prosecutors last year, and as a result, Greenwood was able to join Getafe on a season-long loan from United.
During Thursday’s game between Real Madrid and Getafe, Greenwood tackled Bellingham on the sidelines, and the camera panned towards him. Fans believed Bellingham used the word ‘rapist’ as the video went viral on social media.

England’s prosecutors closed their case in February of last year, stating that “a combination of the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light meant there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction.”
Manchester United said in their statement on Greenwood’s exit that it was the best move for both parties. “The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United. The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”
