Juventus to sack Andrea Pirlo and reappoint Massimiliano Allegri

Andrea Pirlo, the manager of Juventus, is scheduled to be fired within the next few hours and will be replaced by Massimiliano Allegri. This follows the Old Lady’s disastrous season in which they finished fourth in Serie A in Pirlo’s debut season.

Allegri, 56, has been unemployed since departing Juventus in 2019. During his stay at the club, he won five straight Serie A titles and led the squad to two Champions League finals.

Many anticipated Juventus to employ an experienced manager after sacking Maurizio Sarri last summer, but the club moved in the opposite direction. Andrea Pirlo, a rookie coach, was given the job. As a result, the club struggled to retain their title, with Inter Milan instead earning their first Scudetto in a decade, finishing thirteen points behind Juventus.

After Inter Milan terminated Antonio Conte’s contract and Spanish media reported Zinedine Zidane is leaving Real Madrid, Juve hurried to finish the transaction overnight on fears that rival clubs may make a play for Allegri. Juventus president Andrea Agnelli decided to improve his bid to sign Allegri immediately. Although nothing has been announced, the former AC Milan and Juventus manager will sign a three or four-year contract.

Allegri had been in direct contact with the Real Madrid board of directors since March. He had been waiting for a job at Real Madrid for months before deciding to join Juventus since Florentino Perez’s timing was seen “too long,” and also after Zinedine Zidane opted to leave the club.
