Kanpur: Woman mauled by stray dogs, suffers severe facial injuries with 17 stitches

According to officials on Saturday, a 21-year-old final-year BBA student in Kanpur’s Shyam Nagar neighbourhood was gravely hurt in a vicious attack by a group of stray dogs. After being taken to Kanshiram Hospital, the victim, Vaishnavi Sahu, had 17 stitches placed in her face.

She is currently receiving treatment for several bite injuries. Vaishnavi was bitten by the dogs at Madhuvan Park on Wednesday while she was making her way home from an institute in Maharajpur.

According to her uncle Ashutosh Nigam, who spoke to media on Saturday, the incident was started by a fight between stray dogs and monkeys. The dogs then attacked her, dragging her to the ground and severely mauling her face.

According to Nigam, a portion of her nose was torn off, and her right face was severely wounded. By the time the dogs were driven away by locals brandishing sticks, she was unconscious and heavily bleeding.

“My niece is traumatised and unable to talk or eat. She screams in terror as she awakens. Nigam told reporters, “All I want is for her to receive the best care possible so that her future and face are not damaged.”

“Today it was my niece, tomorrow it could be someone else’s child,” he continued. The local populace has called for immediate government intervention and the transfer of stray canines to animal shelters.

The issue surfaced a day after the Supreme Court on Friday changed its August 11 ruling that forbade the release of vaccinated stray dogs from Delhi-NCR shelter homes, citing it as “too harsh,” and mandated that the dogs be freed after being sterile and dewormed.
