Kanye West’s X account has been deactivated after a series of antisemitic posts

Kanye West’s X (formerly Twitter) account has been deactivated following a series of antisemitic statements. As of Monday morning, his profile displayed the message: “This account doesn’t exist.” It remains unclear whether West deleted his account voluntarily or if the platform took action against him.

Elon Musk had previously reinstated West’s account in 2023, months after it was suspended for posting an image that combined a swastika with a Star of David. However, ahead of this year’s Super Bowl, West once again sparked controversy with inflammatory posts, including remarks about Taylor Swift, which were flagged with a “potentially sensitive content” warning.

Musk acknowledged the controversy, stating: “Given what he has posted, his account is now classified as NSFW [not safe for work]. You should not be seeing that anymore.”

Before his account disappeared, West—who now goes by Ye—shared deeply offensive messages. In one, he wrote: “IM A NAZI. I LOVE HITLER NOW WHAT BITCHES.” Another post read: “SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE JEWISH AND I DONT TRUST ANY OF THEM.” These statements sparked widespread outrage from public figures and organizations.

Actor David Schwimmer condemned West’s remarks, urging Elon Musk to take action:

“We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate-filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk. Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X. That’s twice as many people as the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews.”

Jewish advocacy groups, including the American Jewish Committee and the Campaign Against Antisemitism, also denounced West’s actions, accusing him of using his platform to incite hatred.

Meanwhile, Piers Morgan offered his own harsh take on West’s downfall:

“So disappointed that Kanye West has deleted his X account… said nobody. From genius rap superstar to demented, vile, racist, anti-Semitic, misogynist, violence-inducing troll. What a sad, pathetic downfall.”

Before his account was deactivated, West posted a final message: “I’m logging out of Twitter. I appreciate Elon for allowing me to vent. It has been very cathartic to use the world as a sounding board.”

It remains to be seen whether X will allow him back on the platform in the future.
