Weddings are often remembered as much for their grand celebrations as for their elaborate food spreads. From live counters to multi-cuisine buffets, wedding meals are usually a highlight for guests. However, filmmaker Karan Johar recently revealed that he has never eaten at a wedding, a statement that left actor Kriti Kharbanda visibly surprised.
The revelation came during a conversation on The Manyavar Shaadi Show, where Karan was speaking with Kriti and Pulkit Samrat about their wedding plans and preferences. When asked about non-negotiables for their big day, both actors unanimously agreed on one thing good food. Kriti went on to share that Pulkit is fondly called “Annapurna” at home due to his love for feeding people, adding that his generosity around food played a role in her decision to marry him.
As the discussion moved to how guests often walk long distances only to eat a limited number of dishes at weddings, Karan made his unexpected confession. He explained that long queues and the idea of standing with a plate make him uncomfortable. According to the filmmaker, he finds the experience awkward and has therefore always avoided eating at wedding functions.
The statement stood out even more considering Karan recently hosted an ultra-luxurious wedding celebration in Udaipur. The wedding of US billionaire Rama Raju Mantena’s daughter, Netra Mantena, to Vamsi Gadiraju was a high-profile affair attended by several celebrities. The festivities featured performances by Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan, Shahid Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit, with Jennifer Lopez delivering a special performance that transformed the event into a concert-like spectacle.
Despite being known for hosting grand celebrations, Karan’s candid admission offered a lighter, relatable moment that quickly caught attention.
