Kate Middleton’s annual Christmas event has no room for a certain scandal-ridden Royal

Kate Middleton’s annual Christmas carol service, “Together at Christmas,” has become a cherished tradition, celebrating the holiday season and honoring unsung heroes in the community. Hosted at Westminster Abbey, the event exudes warmth and unity, often with a strong turnout of royal family members. Yet, this year’s edition has stirred conversation—not for its festivities, but for a glaring absence that highlights ongoing tensions within the monarchy.

According to the Daily Mail, Prince Andrew was once again left off the guest list. Columnist Ephraim Hardcastle reported whispers that suggestions to invite Andrew, albeit discreetly seated “behind a pillar,” were dismissed for the second year in a row. This decision stands in stark contrast to King Charles III’s efforts to bring his younger brother back into the royal fold. While Charles reportedly advocates for Andrew to receive “due status,” it seems Prince William and Kate remain steadfast in their refusal to extend an olive branch.

Prince Andrew’s exclusion isn’t without merit, as his tarnished reputation continues to cast a long shadow over the royal family. His involvement with the late Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender, has made headlines for years. Virginia Giuffre accused Andrew of sexually assaulting her on three occasions in 2001, when she was just 17. These alleged incidents took place in London, New York, and Epstein’s private island in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Although Andrew has consistently denied these allegations, claiming no recollection of meeting Giuffre, the damage was done.

In 2019, amid mounting public and media scrutiny, Andrew withdrew from royal duties. The controversy culminated in February 2022 when he reached an out-of-court settlement with Giuffre for an undisclosed sum. While this settlement resolved the civil lawsuit, it left lingering doubts about his integrity and suitability for public life.

Beyond the Epstein scandal, Andrew has faced other allegations, including ties to an alleged Chinese spy, Christine Lee, whom he reportedly invited to royal residences despite security concerns. This raised alarms about his judgment and susceptibility to foreign influence.

Further complicating matters, Andrew is embroiled in a dispute with King Charles over his residence at Royal Lodge, a sprawling 30-room mansion in Windsor Great Park. Despite Charles urging Andrew to relocate to the smaller Frogmore Cottage, the Duke of York has refused to leave. This standoff has created additional friction within the family, particularly after Charles reportedly cut Andrew’s annual £249,000 grant from the Duchy of Lancaster.

Andrew’s ability to maintain such an extravagant property without an official income has also sparked questions. Reports suggest he’s relying on unspecified “other sources of income,” but the legitimacy of these funds remains unclear.

Given this storm of controversies, it’s no wonder Kate Middleton and Prince William are cautious about associating with Andrew, even during a season of goodwill. The Christmas carol service, meant to symbolize unity and gratitude, would risk overshadowing its charitable mission if Andrew’s presence stirred renewed public backlash.

While King Charles may hope for reconciliation, Kate and William’s stance signals a commitment to preserving the royal family’s reputation. As much as Christmas is a time for forgiveness, some actions—particularly those with far-reaching consequences—are not so easily forgotten.
