Katy Perry reveals she’s leaving American Idol after 7 seasons

On Monday night, Katy Perry shocked fans of American Idol by announcing that she will be leaving the show after 7 seasons. The surprise announcement came during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where the pop star revealed the news.

Perry revealed her decision to leave, mentioning a big music festival in Brazil, Rock in Rio.  She said, “This fall, in September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio. So I think this will probably be my last season for Idol.”

Katy expressed her love for American Idol, highlighting the show’s importance in connecting her to the heart of America. However, she added, “I need to feel that pulse of my own beat,” expressing a desire to take on new ventures.

When questioned about her fellow judges’ responses, Katy replied, “Well, they’ll find out tonight!” Fans are curious how Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan would react to the news.

Katy Perry joined American Idol in 2018 for its revived 16th season on ABC. She has since been a regular for seven seasons, sharing the stage with other musical icons Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

Katy had a couple of controversies throughout her time on Idol. Viewers criticized her last year for how she treated contestant Wé Ani, calling her unprofessional and ignoring fellow judge Lionel Richie. Even with the highs and lows, Katy has played a big role in the show.
