Kendrick Lamar has expressed deep admiration for SZA’s artistic journey, reflecting on how far she has come in her career. The Compton-born rapper spoke about the SOS singer’s remarkable growth, especially as they prepare to share the stage at the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, set to take place on February 9, Sunday, according to People magazine.
During a press conference for the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, Lamar was asked whether he had caught up with SZA ahead of the major event and their rumored grand national tour to celebrate their achievements. While he confirmed they had spoken, he admitted they hadn’t had a chance to fully process the moment together due to the fast-paced nature of rehearsals, production, and other preparations.
“Things move rapidly when it comes to rehearsals and production. We do speak, but we haven’t had a chance to settle into the moment,” Lamar explained.
Despite the whirlwind of activity, Lamar took a moment to praise SZA’s dedication and evolution as an artist. Reflecting on her early days in the music industry, he described witnessing firsthand how she would write songs, discard them, and start over again—all in pursuit of greatness.
“For me personally, watching her career and where she’s come from—it’s amazing to see,” he shared.
Seeing her journey unfold reminded him of how others viewed his own rise in the industry. Lamar recalled the first time he saw SZA in the studio, meticulously crafting her music, constantly pushing herself to improve. He recognized the same relentless work ethic and passion that he himself had experienced.
“She always had it, man,” he said with conviction. “She always had it, and I’m just honored to be next to her talent.”
