Krishna Janmashtami 2024: Know the Rituals and Puja Muhurat

As Janmashtami is here, devotees of Lord Krishna are geared up for the major celebration of his birth. They acquire a variety of ornamental items to embellish their homes, such as flowers and peacock feather decorations. Preparations for Laddoo Gopal Ji include the mandatory special swing and costume. On the eve of Janmashtami, everyone makes sure that all preparations are in place to celebrate the occasion. This year honours Shri Krishna’s 5251st birthday, with Janmashtami on August 26, 2024.

Krishna Janmashtami Rituals 

On Krishna Janmashtami, devotees have to fast in order to receive Lord Krishna’s blessings. You can follow a nirjala vrat, which means no eating or drinking till night, or a phalahar fast, which means one can eat only fruits, milk, and water. The fast is usually broken at midnight. Following the customs of wearing traditional attire, bathe and beautify Lord Krishna’s idols and jewels, and request blessings for the well-being of their family. Devotees should recite the Bhagavad Gita or Krishna Leela, as well as chant mantras and bhajans.

To successfully carry out the Krishna Janmashtami puja, devotees will require a banana leaf on which to place Lord Krishna’s portrait. Rose, wheat, rice, red lotus flowers, incense sticks, agarbatti, kumkum, abir, gulal, kesar, kapur, sindoor, Chandan, yagyopavit 5, akshat, paan leaves, supari, pushmala, haldi, cotton, tulsi mala, kamal gatta, Ganga Jal, honey, dhaniya, panch meva, sugar, cow ghee, cow milk, rituphal, and cardamom are also used in puja.
