The Mimi actress shared that while she has not faced blatant discrimination often, subtle instances have left an impression. “Sometimes the male actor is given a better car or a bigger room. It’s not about luxury, it’s about not making me feel smaller because I’m a woman. Just make it equal,” she said in a recent conversation.
Kriti added that even assistant directors often call female actors earlier while waiting for the male leads, a practice she has personally asked them to stop.
Reflecting on her upbringing, Kriti credited her parents for shaping her perspective on equality. With both parents working and dividing responsibilities equally, she and her sister Nupur grew up without gender-based restrictions. She also revealed how her mother had once fought hard just to continue her studies, sacrificing hobbies, but always encouraged her daughters to dream without limits.
According to Kriti, the larger issue lies in attitudes that are deeply ingrained and rarely questioned. She stressed the need for a change in mindset within the industry. On the work front, Kriti was last seen in Do Patti, which also starred Kajol and Shaheer Sheikh and marked her debut as a producer.
She is now gearing up for Anand L Rai’s romantic drama Tere Ishk Mein with Dhanush, slated for release on November 28, along with Cocktail 2 opposite Rashmika Mandanna and Shahid Kapoor.
