Poet and former politician Kumar Vishwas has stirred controversy with remarks perceived as targeting Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha’s marriage to actor Zaheer Iqbal. Speaking at a public event, Vishwas urged people to instill cultural values in their children, referencing the Ramayana. “Teach your children Ramayana, make them read the Geeta. Otherwise, someone else might take away the Shri Lakshmi of your house even if the house is named ‘Ramayana,” he remarked.
The comments appeared to allude to Shatrughan Sinha, Sonakshi’s father and Trinamool Congress MP, whose home is reportedly named “Ramayana.” Vishwas’s statement has been met with criticism online. One user rebuked him, stating, “She is an independent, educated woman who has chosen her partner. Women are not objects to be donated or taken away.”
Sonakshi married Zaheer Iqbal in a private ceremony in June 2024, amid reports of family resistance. Her brothers, Luv and Kush Sinha, were conspicuously absent, fueling speculation of discord.
This isn’t the first time Sonakshi has faced public scrutiny. Previously, veteran actor Mukesh Khanna criticized Shatrughan Sinha for allegedly failing to impart traditional values after Sonakshi struggled with a question about Lord Hanuman on Kaun Banega Crorepati. Sonakshi responded firmly, defending her intelligence and dismissing the uproar.
