Sri Lanka cricketers who are on tour to England have breached the team’s bio-bubble in England after a video come out on Twitter showing Kusal Mendis and Niroshan Dickwella out in a public space. The duo was seen roaming the streets of Durham after Sri Lanka lost the final T20I on Sunday night. Both Dickwella and Mendis played in the game as England trounced Sri Lanka by 89 runs.
“The team management would be investigating the matter on Monday, but could not confirm whether a breach had actually taken place. However, the area that Mendis and Dickwella have been seen to be in, in the images that have come out, does not appear to be in the vicinity of the team hotel in Durham,” Sri Lanka manager Manuja Kariyapperuma told ESPNcricinfo.
According to some reports, One more unnamed Sri Lankan cricketer is also understood to have stepped out with Mendis and Dickwella.
If it is found that the players did indeed violated the bio-bubble, they would likely be sent to isolate for several days, also will be unavailable for the first two ODIs of the three-match series against England. It is also possible that Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) may impose additional penalties on each player.
This violation of COVID-19 related health protocols has come amid a difficult tour for Sri Lanka. Faced a clean sweep in the T20Is against the host, also none Sri Lankan cricketer had a good time during this series.
The first of three ODIs against England is scheduled for Tuesday.
