Kylian Mbappe finally releases statement amid speculations about his PSG exit

PSG forward Kylian Mbappe released a statement in response to reports that he has informed the club that he would not be extending his contract.

On Monday (June 12), L’Equipe claimed that Mbappe had sent a letter to the Parisians telling them that he will not be triggering the one-year option in his contract. His present contract ends in 2024 and he is reportedly unwilling to sign a new one.

Mbappe has now issued a statement in which he claims that a new deal with PSG has never been discussed (via AFP News Agency). “I have never discussed a contract extension with PSG.” He also added, “The board has been informed since July 15th, 2022 of my decision not to extend beyond 2024, and the letter sent was only meant to confirm what I already told them.”

The Ligue 1 champions, according to the aforementioned source, are furious over Mbappe’s letter. They have taken the stance that the Frenchman must either extend his stay at Parc des Princes or be sold.

This has led to the 24-year-old being linked to Real Madrid once again. The striker has been in contact with Los Blancos president Florentino Perez for weeks, according to journalist Santi Aouna of Foot Mercato and Perez plans to sign him this summer.
