Kylian Mbappe shocked the PSG management when he announced in a letter that he would not be activating a 12-month contract extension and would leave as a free agent following the 2023-24 season. The Frenchman is under contract with PSG until 2024, with a one-year extension option that must be signed by July 31.
As per reports, Lionel Messi, a former PSG player, recently asked Mbappe to leave Paris and join Barcelona or Real Madrid. PSG clearly does not want its greatest gem to leave as a free agent. He was previously linked to Real Madrid, who reportedly offered 180 million euros in 2021. But PSG signed him to a new contract and the latest news has revived the transfer rumour again.
As per reports, PSG and Real Madrid have agreed to a 250 million euro agreement for Mbappe, breaking Neymar’s transfer record. In August 2017, Neymar moved from Barcelona to PSG for 222 million euros.
Owners of PSG and representatives of Real Madrid reportedly met on Wednesday, and negotiations have been taken forward. Additionally, the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez and the owner of PSG, Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Than, have been exchanging messages recently in an effort to strike a deal for Mbappe.
The initial fee will be 200 million euros, with an extra 50 million euros due in bonuses related to the number of games Mbappe plays for the Madrid-based club. It will also depend on if Mbappe wins the Ballon d’Or. The 2018 World Cup champion joined PSG on loan from Monaco in 2017, before making the transfer permanent a year later in a deal worth 145 million euros plus 35 million euros in add-ons.
