Kylian Mbappe has allegedly informed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) of his decision not to take up the option to extend his present contract until 2025, which would imply that his current deal would expire in June 2024.
As per L’Équipé, the French superstar affirmed his decision in a letter to PSG.
As a result, the club will need to sell the star player this summer, or else the 24-year-old might go on a free transfer next year.
According to the reports, PSG refused to let Mbappe go as a free agent, increasing the possibility of a transfer battle between clubs this season.
PSG’s second option is to convince Mbappe to say yes and sign him to a heavy contract deal. Mbappe has until July 31 to decide whether to trigger a one-year extension to his contract. He joined the team in 2017, transferring from Monaco in a deal that was reportedly for $190 million.
Mbappe’s likely exit would be the most significant loss for PSG since he is a national star and widely seen as one of the few players capable of taking over from Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as football’s biggest stars.
Mbappe has 5 French league titles with PSG and was France’s World Cup winner in 2018.
