Barcelona’s star Lionel Messi proved to be the man on the brink yet again

Barcelona was under fire as Atlético and Madrid won Saturday’s games – Atlético struck Elche 1-0 and Madrid defeated Osasuna 2-0. On Thursday, the Catalan club suffered a shock of 2-1 home defeat to Granada, when they could take the lead alone.

“It was an important win to keep us in the fight after that unexpected loss. We’ll try to win next weekend and take the lead. It’s in our hands.” Gerard Piqué said.

The pressure intensified on Sunday after Valencia’s 50th-minute score the opening goal at the Mestalla Stadium. Gabriel Paulista the midfielder beat Barcelona defender Clément Lenglet to the ball for an easy header by the far post. Messi led Barcelona’s recovery.

The Argentine star equalised in the 57th after Valencia goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen saved his bad shot at the mark. The midfielders Sergio Busquets and Pedri González all tried to strike from the near range before Messi reached the loose ball.
Six minutes later Griezmann scored the goal with the exception of Cillessen the former in Barcelona gaolkeeper who saved Frenkie De Jong’s header, Griezmann came in unmarked to score easily and gave Barca the lead.

The second goal for Messi was a stunning free shot that curved around the wall and struck the post in the 69th minute before it got into the goal.
His milestone 50th goal from a free-kick increased his tally, leaving him at the top of the goal-scoring charts with 28 goals.
