La Liga: Real Madrid concede stoppage-time equalizer against Atletico Madrid in derby

Atletico Madrid drew rivals Real Madrid 1-1 on Sunday due to a goal from Marcos Llorente in the 93rd minute. The midfielder from Spain rescued Atletico a point to keep their faint title hopes alive and keep Real from gaining more points.

Brahim Diaz, who came on late to replace the injured Vinicius Junior, gave Madrid the early lead at the Santiago Bernabeu.

With Llorente’s equalizer, Madrid is now two points ahead of Girona, who drew with Real Sociedad on Saturday and 10 points ahead of Atletico, who is currently in fourth place.

Next weekend, Real Madrid takes on Girona in a crucial title match that will be even more exciting because of Llorente’s vital contribution.

This was the third of three competitive Madrid derby matches in less than a month. Real Madrid won the first, defeating Atletico on their way to win the Spanish Super Cup, but Diego Simeone’s side eliminated Los Blancos from the Copa del Rey a week later.

The only side that beat Madrid this season in any competition is Atletico, who defeated them in La Liga in September but could not complete a hat-trick.
