Inter Miami pulled off a spectacular signing when they convinced the legendary Lionel Messi to go with the USA as his next destination in an incredible career that has witnessed the Argentina star win a record eight Ballon D’or awards and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Many celebrities from other fields, including basketball king LeBron James, witnessed Messi’s debut for Inter Miami, a team co-owned by the great David Beckham, after he left French club Paris Saint-Germain last year.
On social media, pictures of celebrities standing in line to take Messi’s photos as he prepared to make his team debut went viral. The former Barcelona player scored a game-winning free kick in injury time to seal a memorable win.
LeBron believes that Messi’s decision to play football in the United States changed both Major League Soccer and the nation.
LeBron told ESPN, Seeing Messi, the GOAT of soccer, honour the MLS with his presence is a total game-changer for us. His arrival not only elevates the league but also inspires a new generation of football fans in our country.”
He added, “It takes unparalleled dedication, work ethic and talent to achieve what Messi has, and I have nothing but respect and admiration for him. I wish him all the best.”
Messi is presently on tour with Inter Miami but has been fighting injuries, resulting in limited to no participation in the club’s pre-season football friendly in Asia.
