Lil Uzi Vert: 5 stages of Lil Uzi’s Career!

Lil Uzi Vert is the stage name of Symere Bysil Woods, an American rapper, singer, and songwriter who was born on July 31, 1995. They are distinguished by their face tattoos, facial piercings, wild haircuts, and androgynous clothing, all of which are based on a melodic trap aesthetic. Philadelphia-born and -bred Lil Uzi Vert first received attention when the commercial mixtape Love Is Rage (2015) was released. This led to a recording deal with Atlantic Records, where they signed under DJ Drama’s Generation Now brand.

2010–2015: Career beginnings

In 2010, Woods started rapping and started working with artists like Steaktown in a project they claim was “simply for money”. He went under the stage name Sealab Vertical.  After hearing someone characterise their rap flow as “Fast, like a machine gun,” they later changed their moniker to Lil Uzi Vert. On January 19, 2014, Woods’ debut EP, Purple Thoughtz Vol. 1, was made available.  The project contains Woods with stronger attention on lyrical than much of their career and was launched with the single “White Shit,” which featured a video. The project was characterised as “phonk” and having cloud rap rhythms by The Guardian owing to its psychedelic and “trippy” production

After DJ Diamond Kuts played one of Woods’ songs on a nearby radio station, the project and subsequent features caught the attention of producer and Def Jam A&R Don Cannon, who signed Woods to their The Academy imprint and created their debut mixtape, The Real Uzi, which was released on August 5, 2014. With the success of The Real Uzi, Woods inked a recording contract with Atlantic Records through DJ Drama, the Generation Now label of Don Cannon and Leighton Morrison.

Woods appeared on Carnage’s track “WDYW” with with Rich the Kid and ASAP Ferg after being signed to Atlantic Records. The Metro Boomin-produced single “No Wait” and the Lil Durk and “Dej Loaf” duet “Pressure” were among the tunes they put out on SoundCloud. In August 2015, they were a part of the “Boys of Zummer” tour by Wiz Khalifa and Fall Out Boy. On October 30, 2015, Woods issued their second mixtape, Love Is Rage. The project, which includes production from up-and-coming producers like Sonny Digital, TM88, and Maaly Raw as well as features from rappers who have charted on the Billboard Hot 100 like Wiz Khalifa and Young Thug, was well received and was highlighted on numerous music blogs including Fader, XXL, and Vibe. Also, they were described as a “breakout artist of 2015” by HotNewHipHop

2016: Breakthrough

Lil Uzi Vert was included in XXL magazine’s 2016 Freshmen Class in June 2016. Uzi performed a “freshman cypher” with Denzel Curry, Lil Yachty, 21 Savage, and Kodak Black as part of this visit. This cypher had over 195 million YouTube views as of December 2021, far and by the biggest for the XXL channel. Following the surge of attention the XXL Freshman list brought them, Woods released the music video for the tune “Money Longer,” which made its Billboard Hot 100 debut the following week at number 92, becoming their first appearance on the chart. The song eventually reached its peak at number 54 and is presently two times platinum in the US.

The Perfect LUV Tape, the fourth mixtape released by Woods, was revealed on July 12, 2016, the day before their 22nd birthday. The tracks “Erase Your Social” and “Seven Million,” both of which featured Future, didn’t reach the Billboard Hot 100 list, were included on the mixtape. The mixtape is gold-certified by the RIAA and debuted on the Billboard 200 album chart at position 55. The Weeknd, a Canadian musician, revealed in October 2016 that Woods will join him on tour.

Gucci Mane and Woods collaborated on a mixtape that was released on November 23, 2016. Woods announced Love Is Rage 2 on the 27th, although it eventually had a number of delays.

2017: Luv Is Rage 2

Uzi participated in the hip-hop trio of Migos’ hit “Bad and Boujee”. The song, which is from the trio’s second studio album, Culture, was released on October 28, 2016. (2017). The song reached its peak on the US Billboard Hot 100 in January 2017, right before the album’s release. It was Uzi’s first number-one hit as a solo or featured artist and their highest-charting song in both categories. While on tour with the Weeknd, Woods released the EP Love Is Rage 1.5 on February 27, 2017. The EP’s “nerdy” nature, which included instrumentals inspired by Kingdom Hearts and lyrics referencing anime, Steven Universe, and hentai, was well appreciated.

Due to the heartbreak-related lyrics in the song “Love Scars K.o 1600″[49] and the all-important references to despair and suicidal threats in the standout tune “XO Tour Llif3,” the EP was also cited as the beginning of Woods’ association with the “emo rapper” label.

Due to “XO Tour Llif3’s” enormous SoundCloud following, Woods performed it live on the Weeknd’s European leg of the tour, and the song was then posted to streaming sites and made available as an official single the following week. The rapper’s biggest hit, “Xo Tour Llif3,” which peaked at number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 4, 2017, debuted at number 49 and was certified six times platinum as of August 2018.

2018–2020: Eternal Atake, Lil Uzi Vert vs. The World 2, and Pluto x Baby Pluto

Uzi said in January 2018 that they have finished a mixtape with music producer Wheezy. Don Cannon announced in May 2018 that a new Uzi project would be released in 2018], and rumours started to circulate in July 2018 when Woods tweeted the words “Eternal Atake,” their second studio album (2020), pinning the tweet and announcing it was “coming soon” before sharing the project’s chosen cover art at the end of the month. The cover image for Eternal Atake at the time makes homage to the Heaven’s Gate cult’s emblem. The two cult members who made it out advised taking legal action against Uzi for ripping off the logo design.

The two group members who were still alive threatened to sue over the artwork. On September 18, 2018, Eternal Atake’s “New Patek,” the band’s initially anticipated debut single, was made available. The song “Multi Millionaire” by Lil Pump later included Uzi as a guest artist. The song, which is off Pump’s second studio album, Harverd Dropout, was made available on October 5, 2018.

Lil Uzi Vert released the track “Demon High” on October 29, 2021. This song is anticipated to serve as the lead single for the band’s upcoming album The Pink Tape, which has been teased to fans since December 2020. Included on the tracks “Big Tonka” and “3G,” Woods made two cameos on the deluxe version of American rapper Yeat’s 2 Alive album in April 2022.

Uzi announced an EP called Red & White on July 12, 2022, with the intention of releasing it before The Pink Tape. Ten days later, the EP was made available.
