Linking PF account to Aadhaar mandatory from June 1

The EPFO is implementing these new rules under Social Security Code, 2020

The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization has released a notification stating that if a Provident Fund(PF) account is not linked to Aadhaar Card the employee will have to face a major financial loss. The new rule comes into effect from today, June 1 2021.

According to the new rules made by the government body EPFO, every PF account holder must get the account linked to his/her Aadhaar card. It will be the responsibility of the employer to make sure that every employee of the company gets their account Aadhaar linked.

The EPFO is implementing these new rules under Section 142 of the Social Security Code, 2020 which was passed by both houses of the Parliament last year. In case an employee fails to get his/her account linked to Aadhaar, the ECR i.e., Electronic Challan cum Return of the account will not be filled. This will lead to the employee not receiving the employer’s contribution to his/her PF account.

The Provident Fund account can be easily linked to Aadhaar. Here are the steps to do the same:

  1. Login to your account on the official website of EPFO – www.epfindia.gov.in
  2. Click the ‘KYC’ option under the ‘Manage’ section
  3. Select the requisite details to be linked to the PF account
  4. Fill the necessary fields displayed
  5. Click the ‘Save’ option
