Lisa Kudrow Reflects On First Table Read For Friends With Late Star Matthew Perry

Lisa Kudrow has shared heartfelt memories of her late Friends co-star, Matthew Perry, particularly recalling the first time they met during the initial table read for the show. Kudrow fondly described Perry as “so smart, so funny. Uniquely funny,” and said that his performance was unlike anything she had expected. She was taken aback by how hilarious Perry was, remarking, “It was like nothing I’ve ever heard before, I went, ‘Oh boy.’” Kudrow’s admiration for his comedic talent was clear, and she highlighted how he was “blow-away hilarious” from the very beginning.

The sudden passing of Perry in October 2023 at the age of 54 shocked the world, leaving both his fans and co-stars in deep grief. Kudrow, like many, was deeply affected by his loss. In a touching tribute, she mentioned that she rewatched Friends in honor of Perry, something she had never done before. Although she admitted that watching herself on the show was usually “too embarrassing,” Kudrow felt that rewatching it and focusing on Perry’s humor was a way of celebrating his legacy. “Just celebrating how hilarious he was — and that is what I want to remember about him,” she said.

Friends, which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004, continues to hold a special place in the hearts of viewers worldwide. Kudrow, Perry, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox, and Matt LeBlanc all became household names through the beloved sitcom, and Perry’s contributions to the show will forever be remembered by his castmates and fans alike.
