Live-action adaptation of ‘Ted’ prequel series in the works at Peacock

Creator and director of the original franchise Seth MacFarlane in negotiations to reprise his role as the voice of the lovable foul-mouthed teddy bear

Ted, the feature film series which was written and directed by Seth MacFarlane of Family Guy fame, is being revived as a live-action series of television by Peacock. The streaming service which is backed by NBCUniversal has ordered a 10 episode straight-to-series format involving the same world of the franchise. MacFarlane, who apart from writing and directing also serves as the voice of the lovable foul-mouthed teddy bear, is in negotiations to reprise the role which will be focused on delving more into the backstory and adventures of the beloved character. He will be joined by Erica Huggins to executive produce the series through MacFarlane’s production house Fuzzy Door, which also will be having co-production between Universal Pictures and MRC Television.

As of now, there are no solid plans for the return of the original franchise’s actors Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis to appear in the series, considering that the series will be a prequel to the 2012 movie. Macfarlane will be writing and executive producing the series. However, details about the format in which the series will be taken are still unclear. There are rumors about the series being shot as a multicamera comedy preferred by MacFarlane, but nothing has been finalized until now. Seth, who is currently involved as the creator, showrunner, and star of the third season of the Hulu dramedy The Orville after a prolonged delay, is expected to return to produce the series on the Ted franchise soon.
