Liverpool targets Gladbach’s Florian Neuhaus as Wijnaldum’s replacement

Liverpool has made contact with Borussia Monchengladbach over Florian Neuhaus.

Liverpool is in negotiations with Borussia Monchengladbach for midfielder Florian Neuhaus as the club look to replace Georginio Wijnaldum. The German midfielder had a release clause of €40million but this has expired this summer. Clubs across Europe including the likes of Juventus, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Liverpool are reported to be interested in the player.

According to reporters, Liverpool has stepped up their interest in the player and will soon sit at the table with Borussia Monchengladbach to discuss a fee.  Liverpool already possesses options in midfield with the likes of Curtis Jones, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but will be looking to adding depth in quality and numbers. Neuhaus is such an option and his fellow countryman Jurgen Klopp greatly admires the 22-year old German international. Liverpool has also been linked with Brighton’s Yves Bissouma and Leicester’s Youri Tielemans.

Gini Wijnaldum was wildly expected to join Barcelona after the expiry of his Liverpool contract but shocked many as he ultimately signed for Paris Saint-Germain.

Upon completing his move, Wijnaldum said: “So excited for the next chapter in my journey. Signing for Paris Saint-Germain is a new challenge for me. I’m very proud to join one of the best squads in Europe. I want to bring all my desire and commitment to this ambitious project.”

In 33 appearances for Gladbach in the 2020/21 Bundesliga season, Neuhaus has scored 6 goals and racked up 6 assists, he has also been called up to the Germany Euro 2020 squad.
