Ibrahima Konate, the RB Leipzig defender is few steps close to joining Liverpool FC for 36 million euros. This deal could be finalised in the upcoming few days; the 22-year old French centre-back was not used as a substitute in both matches when the two sides met in the Champions League earlier this year. The discussion regarding Konate, the centre-back is in progress between Liverpool and Leipzig.
He has made 21 appearances for Leipzig this season which includes eight Bundesliga starts as the club finished second with 13 points behind the champions Bayern Munich (German football team). Konate, who is part of France under-21 squad preparing for the European Championships, has been Jurgen Klopp’s first choice to strengthen his defence along with the injuries which blighted the club’s title defence.
His departure made easier by the existence of an exit clause in his Leipzig contract which totals 41 million euros. Liverpool has informed the Bundesliga side that they will now trigger that and will have an agreement with them on the payment structure.
Konate started eight games in the Bundesliga for Leipzig last season and was not used as a substitute in the Champions League last 16 defeat too. Liverpool expects to complete the transfer of Ibrahima Konate in the next 48 hours.
