New rules which were set to phase out covid restrictions in mid-April are still.under consideration says the Maharashtra Government after declaring a five level unlock plan on Thursday.
Maharshtra relief and rehabilitation minister, Vijay Waddettiwar after a meeting with chief minister Uddhav Thackeray announced that 18 districts have been listed for level 1 (complete unlock) including Thane. With the hit of second wave of the deadly virus in the financial captial of India, Mumbai was the worst affected city at one point and was marked at level 2 where the city’s lifeline, local trains were restricted by the minister which was immediately reported as launch of the state’s unlock.
Although these statements went across media, soon after, the Chief Minister’s office came out with a clarification stating that no decision has been taken yet. The proposal for new rules are yet under consideration along with the restrictions not being removed in the state, as per the statement from Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s office.
According to the state government, the deadly coronavirus has not been completely stopped and in order to deal with the same it is essential to decide on whether to implement any relaxations on the restriction or not, the state restrictions are not yet lifted.
The Maharashtra Government’s flip-flop was soon mocked by the former Chief Minister and BJP leader, Devendra Fadnavis in one of his tweets saying:
“Whats open and whats closed?, lock or unlock?, immaturity or credit seeking?” Post this Mr Fadnavis also questioned that whether the people should trust a press conference or a press note.
