A low pressure region is expected to develop over the Southeast Bay of Bengal around November 22, according to a weather warning issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday. By November 24, the system is expected to strengthen into a depression across the central regions of the south Bay of Bengal, according to the weather service.
The IMD also issued a heavy rain alert for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands due to the developing meteorological system over the Bay of Bengal. The cyclone would be called “Senyar” if it were to originate in the Bay of Bengal. According to the roster, it is the name of the next cyclonic storm in the North Indian Ocean and was submitted by the United Arab Emirates. It usually implies a “lion.”
The weather authority predicts that one or two locations on Nicobar Island may get heavy to extremely heavy rainfall (07–20 cm). In the meantime, Andaman Island is also expected to get significant rainfall (07–11 cm). “On November 24 and 25, thunderstorms with gusty winds (40–50 km/h) and lightning are also very likely to occur at one or two places over Andaman and Nicobar Islands,” an official was reported by the PTI news agency.
Over the Andaman Sea, squally weather with surface winds of 35 to 45 kmph with gusts of up to 55 kmph are also likely. Fishermen are warned not to enter the Andaman Sea until November 23 due to the probable rough sea conditions, according to the weather department source quoted by PTI.
The officer stated, “At Port Blair Port, we have issued a Local Cautionary Signal-3.” In the meanwhile, due to the potential for surging waves, boat owners, residents, and visitors have also been encouraged to use caution when engaging in any recreational activities in or near the water. Both visitors and residents have been asked to abide by all of the administration’s safety regulations.
