Lucknow jewellery shop staff caught with gold worth ₹3.94 crore

A 30-year-old jewellery store employee was detained by police on suspicion of stealing ₹3.94 crore worth of gold and fabricating a loot story to get out of it.

After the incident was reported late Thursday evening, the matter was resolved in two hours by the central zone squad of the Lucknow police. Aman Sodhi was recognised as the jewellery store employee that was arrested.

According to deputy commissioner of police, central Raveena Tyagi, “police also recovered gold worth 2 crore which the accused had hidden at his maternal grandmother’s rented house.”

“Aman Sodhi, who works for Hansini Jewellers in Mahanagar, purchased five gold biscuits from Anandi Bullion Jewellers in Chowk, each weighing one kilogramme, for a total of ₹3.94 crore,” she added.

According to the DCP, “shortly after this, he told police that on Nadwa Bandha Road, unknown bike riders snatched two biscuits and struck him on the head with an iron rod.” Hasanganj police opened an inquiry and filed a case as soon as the claimed event was reported.

“Aman’s actions were deemed questionable by the police during the investigation. During questioning, he admitted to committing the crime out of thirst for gold”, according to Tyagi.

According to the police, it was discovered throughout the inquiry that Aman had attempted to fabricate a loot story in order to justify his innocence. According to a press release from the Lucknow police, “A case has been registered against the accused Sodhi, a Chowk resident under the relevant sections and he has been produced before the court.”
